The Smithfield Police Department is attempting to identify a male suspect involved in the armed robbery of the Speedway, 263 Putnam Pike (Rt. 44) in Smithfield , R.I.

On Saturday, 3/17/2018, at approximately 2:00 am, members of the Smithfield Police Department responded to Speedway for an armed robbery. The male suspect, who was wearing a mask and a winter jacket with a fur hood, pulled out a hand gun (semi-automatic) and demanded cash, cigarettes, and lottery tickets.

The suspect fled the scene on foot and was headed towards Johnston. The suspect appears to have dark colored hair and a receding hairline.

CAPTURED

On 5/25/18, the Smithfield Police Department have reported the capture of the suspect in this case. He is identified as:

HOWARD A. SMITH (37) from Johnston, R.I.

SMITH reportedly robbed the same location a second time and was captured a short time after the 2nd robbery. SMITH is currently at the ACI.
